His friend (father?) Scooter clearly loved him--I saw him grooming and loving on him in the window. My bird Lisa did that a lot when her friend Bart was dying--I only realized aftewards that she was tending to the little guy like a nurse.

Again, I'm sorry that you had to let him go. Please know that that was indeed the humane and loving thing to do, and he was lucky to have people like you caring for him. I know he enjoyed his time playing in the shop--what a fun place for a cat!

yes, that was silencio and he had to be put down. ...

yes, that was silencio and he had to be put down. he got a nasty respiratory infection a couple of months ago and was never able to shake it. at six months, he was the same size he was when he came in at three months. in contrast, his brother ossie (who has the same coloring, with spots instead of stripes), who also has feline leukemia, never got the infection and was twice the size of silencio.

we recently found out that he had feline leukemia, and that's probably why he was never able to fully recover. a couple of weeks ago, the respiratory infection came back. he was struggling to breathe ever since.

he and scooter (the tuxedo) had a great relationship, and they would take turns grooming each other. when silencio got sick, scooter looked after him, often snuggling up against him to keep him warm and continuing to groom him.

before he got sick, silencio would strut around like he owned the shop. one time he climbed the apron rack, knocking down half the aprons, and perched on top like a flag pole sitter, or zeus.
