What remains...(and, "When Bo Met Zoe")...

.....the remains of a tree that grew around an iron fence rail....

 

Yesterday, it took me several double-takes to understand (at) what I was looking (at); I had to go back today to make sure I saw what I thought I had seen.

 

Someone, in chopping down the tree must have purposefully,  lovingly preserved the evidence of this tree's....persistence...

This lovely, sweet, gentle spirit is Zoe....in brief--she was used as a "bait dog" in dog-fighting.  She has the scars to prove it.  Until recently, she was afraid of everything and everyone.

As I write this I am beginning to sob.

This animal abuse must stop.

We CAN do better.

Her owner--who I don't know very well--also happens to be one of the very nicest people in Richmond. 
So it's no surprise that Zoe is healing--emotionally--quite well.

 

 

Meeting Zoe convinced me even more than I already believed that dogs are special creatures, with large souls and spirits. 

 

 

She actually healed Bo of some issues he had been having.

Love at first sight. 

Bo is always good with the ladies, but this is...

when infatuation turned to romance...

non-anthropomorphic version:

Bo did not bark at Zoe, or at least not very much.

He does not bark at:

• girl dogs
• weak dogs
• sick dogs
• old dogs
• gentle dogs
• sweet dogs

Zoe was his best encounter so far.

 

After Zoe left:

 

Today was the first day Bo calmed down enough to sit and stay.

I was so proud of him.

He...all of his behavior was dramatically improved after encountering Zoe.

I cannot believe this is coincidental.
I think Zoe told him some things.

Like, "You've got it good, buddy,"

"You're just too good to be true...can't take my nose off your butt..."

or
"Life goes on,"
or
"Be good, boy.  Just be good."

"These are the people who won't hurt you.
That time is over."
